This past weekend our family had the opportunity to go to Chicago. We originally made plans to go to Illinois to meet some of my best friends from Babycenter. My husband is such am amazing guy to take time off work and drive us down there.
We didn't have much time (or much money!) but we figured we could find something. We made a quick drive around Navy Pier but ultimately ended up at Lincoln Park Zoo. I had heard some wonderful things about the zoo, but you can never tell how great something is until you experience it for yourself.
We spent about three hours at the zoo and we didn't even see all of the animals. I would recommend the zoo to anyone who is in Chicago and looking for something cheap to do.
The zoo itself is free. You just walk right in. It felt so weird! You do pay for parking. It goes by how long you are there. Up to a half hour is free. A half hour to three hours is $17. I believe it goes up to $24. So it's not that bad, especially considering that the zoo is FREE! I believe you can bring your own sack lunches in to the zoo, so you don't even have to buy the food. We didn't plan this out, so we ended up buying lunch. It cost more than it would at say, McDonalds, but you have to remember that the zoo is free. And really, twenty some dollars for lunch for a family of four isn't bad. All in all, we spent less than $50. Not much more than we would have for all of us to go to the movie theater, and with the zoo, we actually got an experience. You know what I mean? It wasn't just sitting in the dark for nearly 2 hours.
We had a great day in Chicago. We got to check out Navy Pier too. Pretty neat. I'd recommend going there, but only if your kids are older than mine. I can't wait to go back to these places when we don't have to bring the stroller and diaper bag!
Here are some pictures! The last one is a photo of the sunset on our way home. It's not the best picture but it was beautiful nonetheless.
